Sam’s Moment

Sam has just turned 12 in August and is in year eight at Oxted School. She loves anything computer related, swimming, her family and cats Dash and Daisy.

I went to a private primary school and everything was going well for a bit. I had a best friend and she was great, but half-way through the year she left and that’s when the bullying started.

I was bullied for about eight years, so I was terrified, going into year seven. Not only was it a new year, it was a very different school. For one thing, I was transferring from private to a state school. I also have epilepsy and autism so was HORRIFIED by the fact I was going to a TOTALLY DIFFERENT school with NOBODY I knew.

I also have a TOTALLY different type of epilepsy to the rest of my family. I am the only one who has eyelid myoclonia, which means I am photosensitive. So I was terrified attending a new school. I was scared I would get bullied and punched.

It actually turned out to be a great year until my best friend ditched me because of my autism. Again, I felt alone and afraid.

But it all turned round when, near the end of that year, my ex-best friend and her new friends had an argument. I had no idea about it but at lunch they invited me to sit with them so everything seemed A-Okay again.
